You will need a referral to Dr Yu for a consultation. This can be obtained from your general practitioner or other medical specialist. If you already have a referral please contact Dr Yu's rooms to make an appointment.
What to bring
You’re welcome to bring a family member or a close friend with you to your consultation. Having someone with you can help reduce any stress you may feel and can be useful in remembering questions you want to ask. They may also help you recall the information shared during your visit. Please check you have:
- The referral from your GP or other medical specialist
- Your x-rays and any other scans (ultrasound, CT and MRI)
- Copies of any blood tests or pathology undertaken in the previous month of two
- List of current medications, their dosage and frequency
- Medicare card
- Health insurance details and/or workers compensation details

What to wear
It's best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the area being examined. In particular, as Dr Yu will need to examine your knee, hip and leg:
- Wear shorts or loose pants that can be rolled up easily
- Alternatively, bring a pair of shorts to change into
- Wear shoes that are easy to take off and avoid tight socks or boots.
What to expect
Your first consultation with Dr Yu will last around 30 minutes and will include a physical examination. He will review any tests you’ve had and explain the results. If your condition is more complex or surgery needs to be arranged, the appointment may take a little longer. Dr Yu will talk through your condition and the available treatment options, and together you’ll decide on the best approach.
If surgery is recommended, a date can be scheduled during the consultation, or you can contact us afterward to arrange one. There is absolutely no pressure to proceed with surgery, and if you have any doubts or questions, you are always welcome to reach out to us.
There is a charge for the initial consultation, part of which you can claim back from Medicare. This fee is payable at the time of consultation.
