Knee pain can affect people of all ages, impacting both mobility and overall quality of life.

It can result from injuries or medical conditions affecting the knee joint or surrounding structures.

Common causes of knee pain include:

  • Arthritis
  • Knee ligament injuries
  • Torn meniscus
  • Patellar tendonitis
  • Chondromalacia patellae
  • Dislocated kneecap
  • Baker's cyst
  • Knee bursitis
  • Plica syndrome
  • Osgood-Schlatter disease
  • Osteochondritis dissecans
  • Gout

As there are many different causes of knee pain, identifying the exact cause of your knee pain is essential for developing an effective treatment plan. Dr Yu will likely advise you to undertake X-rays, MRI scans, CT scans or ultrasounds if you have not already had them performed.

Non surgical treatment may initially include rest, ice or heat application, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, stretching, physiotherapy and cortisone injections.

In some cases, Dr Yu may recommend a knee arthroscopy. This minimally invasive surgical procedure allows Dr Yu to examine the internal structures of the joint to diagnose and treat the underlying condition.
