Hip dislocation occurs when the femoral head shifts out of its socket, either moving backward (posterior dislocation) or forward (anterior dislocation).

Hip dislocations are usually the result of high-impact injuries, such as car accidents or severe falls. Common symptoms include intense pain, an inability to move the leg, and numbness in the foot or ankle. In some cases, a hip dislocation may be accompanied by fractures in the hip, back, or knee. Diagnosis involves a thorough physical examination and imaging tests like X-rays to confirm the injury.

Treatment involves replacing the hip to its original position. In a closed reduction, Dr Yu will manually reposition the femoral head whilst the patient is under anesthesia. If there are other injuries, such as bone fragments or damaged tissue, then an open reduction may be required.
